Our Wedding

ROXANNE WALKER is named for the female lead in Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac. A précieuse like her namesake, her beauty and magnetism are matched only by the deadly precision of her wit. She, too—tragically—fell in love with the musings of a man with a rather large nose (more on him below).Roxanne is otherwise known for hiking hundreds of miles at a time, breaking colts as a wrangler on dude ranches and saving small animals.

THE BRIDE

SALVATORE (MAX) BROWN is named after his Sicilian grandfather, Salvatore Giarratana, who came to America on a boat. The Brown side were at the first Thanksgiving, Tea Party, and the Witch Trials. To further confuse matters, he often goes by his middle name— Max. Pardon said confusion for the uninitiated. At the wedding, you may call him Max, Sal, Cyrano de Brown, The Groom, Groomzilla, or that guy next to Roxanne. He likes long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners with Roxanne, and movies.

Roxanne and Max once suffered through two straight days of a bad movie marathon here to raise funds for the Sidewalk Film Festival. They do not recommend the experience but they do enthusiastically recommend Sidewalk in all its many forms.

This activity day was inspired by Roxanne's fond memories of summer camp.Come join us for high-stakes pickleball, tetherball, hiking, axe throwing, paddle-boat racing, and more. Lunch will be provided. Transportation available from The Elyton Hotel.Buses leave at 10:30AM.More Details to Come. 5PM-8PMREHEARSAL DINNER WHERE:<a href="https://www.slossfurnaces.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SLOSS FURNACES</a>20 32nd St N, Birmingham, AL 35222 WEAR:SMART CASUAL ATTIRE Sloss Furnaces operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace from 1882 to 1971, its success largely responsible for building the city of Birmingham, Alabama into what it is today. It's now a National Historic Landmark... a labyrinthine maze of stunning early American industrial architecture... a forever home for the many ghosts of pre-OSHA laborers past... and, clearly, the only real choice for our rehearsal dinner! Tours of the furnace will be offered periodially throughout the night, so get your tetnis shots! Come listen to live music, speeches and toasts, a healthy amount of haranguing, and chow down on Miss Myra's infamous pit BBQ-- a local institution that has served generations of Roxanne's family, and will continue to serve generations to come if Max has anything to do with it.
